An interview with Velvetine Magick on her artistry, magickal influences, and passion for alternative culture.

You often showcase your unique style on stage at Bar Sinister. How do you merge your visual aesthetic with your performances to create a memorable experience for the audience?

Though I don’t typically perform, I do enjoy dance and being a guest at other alternative clubs. I know a lot of the music so it was pretty natural once I got over being on a platform. Last time I was on any kind of stage was back in theater! I was a theater kid for sure.

Your social media handle includes "magick." Can you tell us how magick influences your daily life and artistry?

I practice magick and I see it in everyday life! It has so many meanings for me. More than just modeling, I enjoy exploring and creating. Everything I do has intention.

Being a part of the SuicideGirls community, how has this platform shaped your identity as a performer and creator?

I love the SG community and I can be found in a lot of the nerdy threads with music, cosplay and film etc. I’ve connected with a lot of fellow nerds on there which has created genuine friendships to this day. I also really love the particular followers that I’ve seemed to attract.

What are some unconventional sources of inspiration that have influenced your recent creative projects?

Travel will always be my main inspiration in everything I do. I enjoy a reset. I enjoy seeing how others live. Feeling small and being wiped clean of all identity in a foreign place. (Though, once I ran into Amanda Welp in Tokyo while eating ramen!) So random and wonderful.

What is a recent challenge you've faced in your career, and how did you overcome it?

A recent challenge was working up the nerve to dance at Bar Sin as I’m usually very shy. But I’m so glad I overcame that the first hour and connected with the girls at the club.

Would you say you spend a lot of time in the Soft Goth aisle at Michael's, or is it an average amount :) What great finds have you gotten from there?

I’ve been there quite a bit collecting Halloween stuff since July. I’m at craft stores often ☺️
