Cherry is a model, DJ, and unmistakable presence in the European underground. Splitting her time between Barcelona and Berlin, she’s become a familiar face in latex campaigns, catwalks, and music videos that blur the line between performance and visual art. In this interview, Cherry reflects on her influences, her evolution in the gothic scene, and what continues to draw her deeper into the world she’s helped shape.
I wasn't working so much time in conventional fashion, when I had the oportunity I started modeling for some iconic Barcelona designers like Biblian Blue and Baby Dark, in addition to making several music videos for music bands and participating in artistic photography exhibitions. Later, once I got into social media, I was contacted to work with stores like Punkrave, Killstar, Dollskill, Fantasmagoria, and latex and vinyl designers from goth and alternative fashion like Ausrie Felice or Tatiana Warnecke.
For me it was very important because it was the job that really made me known as a gothic model in Barcelona and Europe. In addition, I adore her designs. I loved participating in two of her catwalks to promote the wonderfull 11:11 collection and the fashion designs inspired by Giger.
I love both cities, but I have to say Berlin always stood out for the great dark underground scene. Unfortunately, after the pandemic, the wonderful events and venues there were drastically reduced. But Berlin and Barcelona, for me, remain the most bohemian cities I've ever been. As far as concerts and music go, you can always enjoy incredible live shows in both cities. If we talk about differences, obviously the weather would be a big contrast because winters in Berlin are much harder than in Barcelona. Another different point is the character of the people, I would say that in Germany they are more reserved and in Barcelona we are that type of noisy people who talk and smile very loud and welcome friends of friends without even asking their name xD. Both cities have wonderful corners for taking beautiful photographs.
I consider myself a Moonchild Creature because, as a Gemini, I can sometimes identify with the lunar phases. My inspiration comes from 1980s horror movies and I love the aesthetic and the sensuality of vampires, and I also love my beloved Betty Page or Vampira, who, for me, are women with overwhelming personalities.
I think the most difficult is still surprising the people who follow you, when you've taken thousands of photographs is really a challenge. I always try to ensure you never see the same thing and I try surround people who watch my work with the atmosphere that I create.
On the other hand, if I had to think about one of the most complicated work I could say was a shooting in Berlin for a music band. I was in the middle of a lake, standing on a stool without trying not fall at any moment, I was all the time making an exercice of concentration to stay steady. I think sometimes people don't realize all the effort that goes behind to a capture or a 2-minute video.
For me, latex and the vampire aesthetic are closely related if you've followed films like Blade or the series like True Blood. Besides modeling it, I love collecting it. It's a highly versatile material, and is possible make some very beautiful creations.
For me, the gothic movement is based more on music than any other theme. So sometimes it's a little sad to see how goth or dark aesthetics are used only for erotic or Only Fans purposes. In my opinion it's much more; it's a way of life: the concerts, the festivals, the people, the events... Obviously, I'm fascinated by dark fashion and I love sexy clothes, but it's not just about aesthetics, the meaning is more deep as sometimes social media shows.
Is a difficult question to answer, but if I base my lineup on the bands I still haven't been able to see live, they would be: Darkher, London After Midnight, Ritual Howls, Potochkine, Wumpscut, Years of Denial, Eva O, Cinema Strange, Diva Destruction.
I think Instagram and TikTok are a huge help to artists, but they can also be a double-edged sword. I mean, Its a very beneficial tool to reach a large audience for promoting stores and models, but at the same time, the fact that many girls/boys choose not to charge for modeling, because the only interest is have more followers, can be detrimental to the professional photographers and models.
Being featured in several magazines and being able to work with so many designers and clothing stores that I adore is a privilege. Looking ahead, I recently received a proposal to be featured in Vogue magazine and I receive a call to participate in a music video for a very famous metal band. Stay tuned to the news :)
